Sing It Out Loud! Or At Least Write It.

22 Sep

I’ve always been a girl who loves to personalize things. Well – I did it again! I’ve been seeing people personalize their pillows with song lyrics they love – so I set out to find the perfect lyrics for my pillows ๐Ÿ™‚ It took a while and a lot of no that’s not it between Brian and I. I wanted him to be as attached to these pillows as I want to be so he had a say in what we chose.

All you need is fabric, a fabric marker (or two), a pillow, a sewing machine (or you can hand stitch with a needle & thread), and some lyrics of course!

Brian and I chose to use the lyrics from Coldplay – Yellow. We are big Coldplay fans and some of our favorite songs as much as we liked them – really didn’t work out for pillow lyrics. So if you do this project you may realize that half of them don’t really work. I like songs with a little bit of ย aย repetitionย in it, but enough words to keep you reading.

If you don’t have consistent handwriting or are afraid you want write in a straight line – try not to worry. Mine isn’t either if you look closely enough you’ll realize I write like a third grader – but if you look back up at the picture above it doesn’t look so bad! Plus it gives it a little character ๐Ÿ™‚

The rest of this how to will be posted later on. I’m excited to get the pillow sewn so you can all see the finished look of it!

What song would you love on a pillow for your room?

Bed Sheet Headband

19 Sep

One more bedsheet project for those of you who are needing ideas for all that fabric and extra pieces!!

What can you do with the elastic edges of a bedsheet?

Oh I can think of a few things ๐Ÿ˜‰ But today I’ll just show you one of them!

I took the elastic piece and wrapped it around Emma’s head and measured it. I then pinned it and grabbed some thread. All it took was sewing the two pieces together and tada! A cute little headband for my cute little girl!

She loved it so much she decided she wanted to make one so I let her “help me” with a second one. After cutting of a small excess piece I decided I was going to make a little flower out of it and attach it to the headband. I’ll have pictures of that later ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love that little girl ๐Ÿ™‚ and her new headband!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love Always,

J

Magazine Review: Woman’s Day Specials – Halloween Celebrations

18 Sep

Who’s ready for Halloween magazines? I AM! This week I’m reviewing Woman’s Day Specials Halloween Celebrations!! This is your all around get ready for the season kind of magazines that includes, crafts, home decor, food, and some extra goodies as well. I can’t imagine you flipping through this magazine and not wanting to attempt something in this magazine – even if you hate Halloween – some of these things are worth a look!

Each page is filled with multiple ideas and and things you can try to create on your own but you can also purchase! One of my favorite things about this magazine is it tells you where they found the item, how much it is, and the website for it! Another plus – they showcase Etsy shops ๐Ÿ™‚ I love supporting fellow etsians.

Their how-to’s are easy to read and follow and they also have extra instructions and patterns in the back! I’d say this magazine is filled with enough goodies to keep you busy up until Halloween this year ๐Ÿ™‚ I already have a list of things I’d love to try as well as a few shops I’ll be buying from. Since this magazine isn’t completely about crafting I deducted a point for ideas & inspirations since part of it is food and that might not interest some as well as a point off for exciting pictures and fun reads because there’s less articles and more shopping.

Halloween Celebrations comes . Each magazine is $5.99 which is a fantastic deal to me. The deal for a subscription is $14.99 for two years or 1 year for $7.99. There are $10 issues a year. You can’t ask for a better deal than that!!!!

  • 4 points for ideas & inspiration
  • 5 points for easy how to and guide steps
  • 4 points for exciting pictures & fun reads
  • 5 points for the amount of issues
  • 5 points for price (5.99 for one issue)

I give this magazine 4.5 out 5 stars which I think is my highest one yet!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Special Delivery

17 Sep

This weekend I got a special delivery in my mailbox. A package from a fellow blogger who I fell in love with when I found her blog!

The best part about this special delivery? I had no idea what she was sending me!! She followed my blog and said she would get a few ideas from it of what to send me ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s like we are long lost best friends because as soon as I opened the package I jumped for joy like a little kid!

A collection of goodies that I can not wait to play with / eat / drink!!

What I got:

  1. chocolate herbal tea (yum!)
  2. A dark chocolate bar (YUM)
  3. Buttons and flowerย appliquesย (so cute!)
  4. Lace and elastic (oh how I can’t wait to play with these!)

Why did she do this? Because she is an outrageously sweet, thoughtful, and selfless person. Which inspired me to send a goodie package to another fellow blogger. I stalked her pages for weeks and weeks and got a collection of items I thought she might enjoy. Stay tuned to see who and what I gave this blogger friend of mine (she has no idea it’s coming!).

Scrap Fabric Baby Blocks

14 Sep

So I’ve been trying to find ways to use up some of my scraps and I saw some a cute idea for scrap fabric blocks on pinterest and decided I would try it out. Since there wasn’t a tutorial with it – I was going blind by trial but I am pretty darn proud at how they turned out!!

I drew out a plan and cut out my squares from my fabric pile.

I then began to sew each piece together the way I had it laid out.

Next came the two pieces on the side to start creating the box form.

Then I took the bottom and wrapped it around the sides.

I left an inch open in order to flip it right side out and stuff it.

Then it was stuffed!! I will say I need a little more practice with stuffing but overall – I am happy with the project!

Bed Sheet Art!

13 Sep

This is the second project I’ve done with a leftover bed sheet! If you decide you want to make wall art out of the bed sheets you use – it might be a great idea to buy an extra pair of sheets to create a matching atmosphere!

I took the bed sheet, a piece of mat board, and some vinyl to use for letters made from my cricut!

I cut out fabric and used adhesive to stick it to the back of the mat board.

Then I cut out the letters with my cricut on vinyl paper!

What do you think!?

Bed Sheet Do Over!

6 Sep

I had this bed sheet lying around and was determined to make a few things out of it so that’s exactly what I did this week! Throughout the next two/three weeks you’ll see other projects that I’ve done with this bed sheet so this won’t be the only one ๐Ÿ™‚

The pattern on this sheet was way too cute to just toss so I decided to take off the fitted part of it to make it easier to work with.

I took my rolling cutter and cut around the edges of the elastic until it was completely off.

Then I did the same thing with the seams – cutting them out to get the fabric so it would lay flat.

I’m keeping the elastic edges for another project you’ll see soon ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m pretty darn excited about it!

After that is easy to lay flat – it just needed a little ironing and I cut the pieces to make my first project out of all this fabulous material.

I cut out the pieces for …. you guessed it – a pocket pillow!

I’m going to make another matching buddy for this one to have and then I’ve already thought of two more projects to do! I’m so glad I kept this bedding around – it’s going to make a ton of fun projects. Who would have thought this one thing could last me so many hours of fun!?

Thanks for stopping by!

Fresh Style: The Holiday Issue – Magazine Review

4 Sep

This magazine grabbed my attention for multiple reasons. 20 DIY gifts under $20 dollars -HECK YES. Easy decor – Yes Please. Quick Projects – WIN! I love all of those things ๐Ÿ˜‰

When it comes to gift giving for my family I love to go out and buy things that they really want (with a budget in mind) and then on top of that I like to make something that’s more personal as well as budget friendly. Whether it’s an ornament, home decor, or just something fun I couldn’t resist – it makes Christmas over here a lot easier to handle. When you have a large family like mine it’s even more difficult to give a lot of gifts when there’s just way to many people to buy for!

So when I saw this magazine, I instantly picked it up, didn’t look at the price, and trucked it to the check out counter! You can never have too many cute, small, budget friendly gift ideas!

After one quick flip my heart was already racing and ready to go. They have enough choice options to make sure there would be something for everyone in here. From buttons, to books, to personalized pieces; this magazine really makes you feel like you could be a gift giving queen! Another plus? If you don’t feel like making these things – you can easily purchase them from their directory in the back.

Not sure where to pick up all the pieces for these crafts? Oh they got you covered there too! Under Resources for Readers in the back they list where they got what pieces and how much certain things cost (decorative things). Talk about getting your homework done for you? Right!?

Now I didn’t forget – the how to’s, pictures, and descriptions. Icing on the cake people. Their pictures are fantastic – for those who see instructions better through pictures; they give you a taste here and there so you aren’t lost. Their descriptions are easy to read and not so long-winded to keep the attention of those easily distracted people like me ๐Ÿ˜‰ Lastly: How to’s! If the descriptions don’t give you enough details in the back they have Step by Step instructions. Ahh what a life. This magazine beats anything I’ve ever seen so far and I am so in love with it that I’m not willing to let it go!

Since Fresh Style only comes out once a year they don’t do subscriptions but since it’s only $7.99 a magazine – it’s totally worth it. I’m adding this magazine to my yearly inspiration ๐Ÿ™‚

  • 5 points for ideas & inspiration
  • 5 points for easy how to and guide steps
  • 5 points for exciting pictures & fun reads
  • 2 points for the amount of issues
  • 5 points for price (7.99 for one issue)

Four out five stars for this one!

A How To: Burp Cloths

3 Sep

I’ve been making burp cloths almost as long as I have been blogging but I don’t think I’ve ever done a how to on it! The idea came from a family member who swore I could make them and wanted a few for a baby shower. Her confidence gave me a boost of energy so much so that I ran out to target that morning and bought a pack of diaper cloths to make pretty with fabric โค

That’s where I started and this is what I ended up coming up with. Making my own burp cloths from scratch. It didn’t take long for me to get irritated with the fabric of diaper cloths as well as their unevenness! It drove me bonkers to the point where I said, “I can make these suckers myself – and better!!”

So here we have it. A How To for Burp Cloths made by me!

I start with two pieces of flannel fabric. One decorative and one plain for the back. I flip them so that the front of the fabric faces each other. Pin the long sides and sew a straight line down. Iron the edges and then flip it inside out!

Then I cut out the middle piece of the burp cloth as well as the batting to go in between. The little white piece in the middle is my tag that I made ๐Ÿ™‚

Next, I measure and put the batting and top material down the middle section and pin! Then comes the hardest part. Fold in the top and bottom edges so that they are even, iron, and pin.

Sew along all the edges and make sure not to forget your tag if you are adding one!

Then there you have it! A burp cloth in the shape and thickness, (if not a little thicker) MUCH softer, with full coverage for those messy babies ๐Ÿ˜‰

It takes me about an hour to make 2 burp cloths so they aren’t that easy to punch out a bunch of them, but now that I have my system down it definitely makes for a fun gift to give as well as pretty darn cute ๐Ÿ˜‰
